Assumpsit, by the plaintiff in error against the defendant in error, for work and labor, &c., brought in tlie St. Clair Circuit Court, and heard at the October term 1843, before the Hon. James Shields and a jury. Verdict for the defendant and judgment for costs against the plaintiff.

Jls sump sit by the plaintiff against the defendant to try his right to freedom. JVun assumpsit and issue. The defendant also filed seven special pleas, to which plaintiff severally demurred. The Court overruled the demurrer to the second, and sustained it to the rest. Issue to the country was joined upon the second plea, which stated in substance, that the plaintiff' is the slave of the defendant by the laws of Illinois, and bound as such to render and perform for her such reasonable service as she may require, and which are the said…
