The appellant, Michael Dupaquier, filed a petition for a writ of habeas corpus, arguing that the Alabama Department of Corrections ("DOC") had not properly calculated the date on which he should be released from prison. He was arrested for unlawfully breaking and entering a vehicle on December 30, 1992, and was arrested for second-degree escape on May 12, 1993.
