OPINION
FLANDERS, Justice.
Finding that the plaintiffs, domestic and business partners Patricia Lett (Lett) and Louis Giuliano (Giuliano), had perpetrated a fraud on the court, a Superior Court trial justice called a halt to an ongoing jury trial and dismissed this libel lawsuit against the defendant, The Providence Journal Company (the Journal). In 1990, Lett and Giuliano were promoting a new racetrack, to be located in Burrillville, when the Journal, owner of the largest daily newspaper in Rhode Island, published an article in the paper suggesting that they were connected to organized-crime…
