The plaintiff in this case recovered a judgment for the sum of $1,821.83 entered upon the verdict of a jury, returned under an instruction of the court so to do, all the evidence offered on behalf of the defendant having been stricken by the court on plaintiff’s motion.

The plaintiff sued for damages alleged to have been sustained by it on 150 barrels of China wood oil, shipped by the lines of defendant, a common carrier, from San Francisco, California, to Chicago, Illinois.
