The tortured history of this civil assault and battery case began almost ten years ago with the filing of a complaint in the Superior Court in March 1990. The case was remanded to the District Court in June 1991 and initially assigned for trial on April 22,1992. Discovery issues caused a delay in the commencement of the trial until *192March 3,1993 and it was completed after parts of three separate trial days on April 28, 1993.
