Cherries, both tart and sweet, are among the many agricultural products that American farmers proudly produce and American shoppers fondly consume. Every year, half a million or so festival-goers descend upon Traverse City, Michigan for the National Cherry Festival to eat cherries, take part in cherry-pit-spitting and cherry-pie-eating competitions, cheer on three separate parades, crown a "Cherry Queen," and generally celebrate this beloved crop.
