People Ex Rel. Daley v. Joyce

We have consolidated in this original action a number of cases which were before the circuit court of Cook County. In each of these cases the State has filed in this court a petition for writ of mandamus, prohibition or supervisory order which requests this court to compel the Honorable Donald E. Joyce of the circuit court of Cook County to adhere to the provisions of section 115 — 1 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of 1968 (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1987, ch. 38, par. 115 — 1), as amended by Public Act 84 — 1428, effective July 1, 1987, and proceed to conduct jury trials for the defendants. This…
