On December 18, 1854, the General Assembly of the State of Arkansas passed an act incorporating the Crawford Institute and appointing trustees for such institute. Section 1 of the act provided that the trustees and their successors are created a body corporate and politic under the care and patronage of the Arkansas Annual Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, and shall be known -and called by the name of the Crawford Institute.
