Before 1856 George Tharp intermarried with Elizabeth Yates, a daughter of Elijah Yates, who soon afterwards advanced to Mrs. Tharp some slaves and personalty.

In 1856 the father made another advancement to Mrs. Tharp, of a female slave about thirteen years of age named Sarah, and - he required his daughter and her husband, upon this last gift to the former, to pay to his other children the sum of $225 by way of making them equal with her.
