On April 7, 1980, Penn-Dixie Industries, Inc. (“PDI”), a major national cement manufacturer, and Penn-Dixie Steel Corporation (“PDS”), a primary steel manufacturer and subsidiary of PDI, filed for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code. 1 These cases are noteworthy in that they were among the largest (if not the largest) and most complex proceedings then filed under the Bankruptcy Code.
