On July 8, 1968 plaintiff filed this suit against the City of New Orleans seeking workmen’s compensation benefits for total and permanent disability resulting from an injury sustained when he struck his knee on fire equipment while employed by the New Orleans Fire Department. As amended, the petition alleges the accident occurred on August 21, 1965, but did not manifest itself *398until July, 1967.
