On June 10, 1987, all four occupants of a Pémbroke Central High School driver education car, three students and their teacher, were killed when the driver education car was struck in its own lane by an oncoming vehicle on Rt. 5 in the town of East Pembroke. Genesee County Sheriffs deputies, who were responding to a call that a vehicle was being driven erratically eastbound on Rt. 5, were among the first to come upon the accident scene.
