OPINION

SHERRY RADACK, Chief Justice.

In this appeal, we consider whether the county court at law loses jurisdiction in a criminal case when the defendant’s surety on the appeal bond dies. We reverse and remand.

BACKGROUND

The fire marshal issued 68 municipal court citations to appellant Comunidad Corporation [“Comunidad”], the purported owner of the Windfield Landing Apartments in Nassau Bay, Texas. 1 The cases were tried in the municipal court in the city of Nassau Bay.
