The defendant, Morland Steele, appeals from his convictions of two counts of indecent liberties with a child (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1981, ch. 38, par. 11 — 4(a)(3)). He raises three assignments of error in this court: (1) that the State’s failure to establish beyond a reasonable doubt that the incident in question occurred on the date specified in the bill of particulars constituted a fatal variance entitling him to a reversal of his conviction; (2) that letters from the State’s Attorney’s office advising the State’s witnesses that they had no obligation to talk to anyone constituted a thinly…
