Appeal from the Circuit Court of the United States for the Western District of Wisconsin. In the year 1858 the La Crosse & Milwaukee Railroad Company owned and operated a railway extending from Milwaukee, by way of Beaver Dam and Horicon, to Portage City, and thence to La Crosse, the railway from Milwaukee to Portage City being denominated the “Eastern Division,” and the road from Portage City to La Crosse being called the “Western Division.”
