The plaintiff filed suit after he was discharged from the defendant’s employ. The plaintiff alleged that he had entered into an employment contract with the defendant, the terms of which were established by a “Personnel Policies Manual” (personnel manual) distributed by the defendant. The plaintiff sought recovery for breach of contract, alleging he was discharged in violation of the contract’s terms because his discharge was not effected in accordance with the grievance procedure outlined in the personnel manual.
