On the 7th day of July, 1853, Antoine Beaubien, an old, uneducated and weak minded Frenchman without children, being the owner of a large landed estate in and near Detroit, the management of which he was compelled to entrust to an agent, executed a deed of trust, convejdng the property to John T. Meldrum, then his confidential agent and manager of the property.
