The Illinois Central Railroad passes through the eastern part of the City of LaSalle in a direction substantially north and south and has one main track approaching LaSalle from the south, which track crosses a bridge over the Illinois River. Shortly after leaving the river going north there are coal chutes on the west side of the main track. A few hundred feet further north the road crosses First street in the City of LaSalle.
