B.L.J. appeals an order terminating her parental rights to K.D.J., a child under the age of eighteen. B.L.J. alleges that the court erred by failing to make an independent determination regarding her unfitness as a parent in terminating parental rights. Because *251we conclude that a finding of unfitness is mandated by statute and an independent determination of unfitness is not required, we affirm.
