OPINION AND ORDER

WEINSTEIN, District Judge.

Four purchasers of Monsanto Company common stock sue that corporation and its principal officers and directors. Defendants are charged with engaging in a scheme to manipulate the price of Monsanto stock so that the individual defendants could sell their own stock in *478the corporation at an artificially inflated price.

Cross-motions have been made by the corporate defendant and the plaintiffs under Rule 23(c) (1) of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure to determine whether this litigation should be maintained as a class action. On the invitation of the…
