Margaret Carpenter died testate on April 12, 1883, a resident of Sangamon county, Illinois, and possessed of lands located in that county. At the time of her death she was a widow, and left surviving as her only heirs her children, Samuel Carpenter, Catherine Wood, Elizabeth Cobbs, Margaret Browning, George Carpenter, John Carpenter, Sarah Jane Carpenter and Mary Ellen Carpenter. Her will contains but four clauses. The first directs the payment of her debts and funeral expenses. The second gives to her daughter Elizabeth a legacy of $1000.
