In May 2006, defendant, Cornelius M. Tapscott, pleaded guilty to criminal sexual assault (720 ILCS 5/12 — 13(a)(2) (West 2004)). He was sentenced to 15 years in the Department of Corrections (DOC) with 96 days’ sentence credit. Defendant appealed his conviction and sentence. This court remanded the cause because defense counsel’s certificate was not in compliance with Supreme Court Rule 604(d) (210 Ill. 2d R. 604(d)). People v.
