HERRMANN, Chief Justice:
This appeal requires review of a Superior Court order reversing a Family Court grant of retroactive child support.1 The Superior Court held (1) child support may be ordered only from the date the petition for support is filed; (2) prior to that date the parents are only liable for reimbursement of actual expenses; and (3) the Family Court abused its discretion by arriving at “the amount of past support by simply applying the amount determined to be appropriate at the present . . . without regard to the circumstances throughout that period.... ” A.
