Defendant-appellant Louis Agrabante (defendant) appeals from his conviction for promoting a dangerous drug in the first *181degree, a violation of Hawaii Revised Statutes (HRS) § 712— 1241(1 )(a)(i) (1985). Defendant was arrested and charged after he purchased cocaine from an undercover police officer in a “reverse buy” operation.
