On March 28, 1968, a bright clear morning, plaintiff Judith Pederson, then 17 years of age, her mother, plaintiff Dora LeTourneau, and a neighbor, Mrs. Marlene Steffen, set out from their homes near Deer River in Mrs. LeTourneau’s car for Grand Rapids, Minnesota. All three were sitting in the front seat of the car with Judith in the middle.
