At the general election held on November 7, 1922, George Peters, the Republican nominee, was declared on the returns to bo elected sheriff of Nueces county, oyer W. P. Johnston. The latter was a candidate as a Democrat, but, as he was not the formal nominee of the party, his name was not printed on the official ballot, as Peters’ was. The consequence was that, in order to vote for Johnston, it was necessary for the voter to write Johnston’s name upon the ballot at the time of voting.
