NYGAARD, Circuit Judge.

We consolidated these appeals to decide questions raised by the District Court’s application of Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 54. Both appeals arise from medical malpractice lawsuits filed against the Nemours Foundation and its physicians. Appellants have suffered the utmost of tragedies: the death of a child — the Regers, an infant son and the Workmans, a two-year old daughter.
