Defendant was charged in an indictment with two counts of “SE RIOUS INJURY BY VEHICLE,” one count of “DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND DRUGS (O.C.G.A. 40-6-391),” namely amphetamine and methamphetamine, to the extent he was less safe to drive, and one count of “DRIVING ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD (O.C.G.A. 40-6-40).” The evidence adduced at his jury trial showed that on the evening of November 11, 1993, defendant was traveling south on Highway 27 in Floyd County, Georgia.
