EAGLESON, J.
A jury convicted Keith Daniel Williams of three counts of first degree murder (Pen. Code, §§ 187, 189)1 with special circumstances (§ 190.2) and use of a firearm (§ 12022.5). The same jury found that he was sane during the commission of the offenses and determined that death was the appropriate penalty for each offense (§ 190). This appeal is automatic (§ 1239). A petition for writ of habeas corpus was filed in conjunction with *897the appeal, and an order to show cause issued thereon.
