This case arises from the warrantless search of a hotel room. Based on evidence seized during the search, Billy R. Mercer, Jr. (Defendant) was charged with one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime. Defendant moved the district court to suppress certain items seized from the hotel room and certain statements he made to law enforcement officers after his arrest.
