After a jury trial, defendant, Robert Weeks, was convicted of threatening a public official in violation of subsections (a)(1) (i) and (a)(2) of section 12 — 9 of the Criminal Code of 1961 (720 ILCS 5/12— 9(a)(1)(i), (a)(2) (West 2006)). He was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment. Defendant appeals, contending (1) a denial of due process due to the trial court’s failure to order a fitness hearing, (2) ineffective assistance of counsel due to defense counsel’s failure to raise the issue of his fitness to stand trial, and (3) a denial of due process due to his being shackled in the courtroom…
