{62} The Framers of the Bill of Rights would be alarmed to learn that a child can be condemned to an adult prison for up to a life sentence without at least the same constitutional protections afforded adults. In New Mexico a child who is “subject to the provisions of the Delinquency Act is entitled to the same basic rights as an adult.” NMSA 1978, § 32A-2-14(A) (1993) (amended 2009).
