PELL, Circuit Judge.

The nineteen named plaintiffs in these consolidated cases appeal from a judgment of the district court which granted the defendants’ motion for a directed verdict at the close of the plaintiffs’ presentation of evidence to the jury. Panter v. Marshall Field & Co., 486 F.Supp. 1168 (N.D.Ill.1980). The plaintiffs, shareholders of Marshall Field & Company (Field’s) sought to prove that the defendants, the company and its directors,- had wrongfully deprived the plaintiffs of an opportunity to dispose of their shares at a substantial premium over market when the defendants…
