I. INTRODUCTION

The plaintiff, Sharon McDonald, was arrested on an arrest warrant obtained by the defendant, Richard Walker, a detective with the Boston Police Department. The plaintiff was unable to post bail and spent eight days in jail before being released on *433her own recognizance.
