Benjamin Preedland, described in the
indictment as “an accounts examiner of the Michigan State sales tax division,” was charged with accepting bribes so as to make a false audit of the books of Paul Wesner, owner of a tavern in the city of Detroit, in violation of section 118 of the penal code of the State of Michigan, being Act No. 328, § 118, Pub. Acts 1931 (Comp. Laws Supp. 1940, § 17115-118, Stat. Ann. § 28.313). This act refers to acceptance of bribes by an executive, legislative or judicial officer.
