In the natural and logical order of consideration of the usual issues presented in a case involving the alleged infringement of patented monopolies, the first question which presents itself is the validity of the patents upon which the suit is based. Both of the patents here in issue are attacked upon the ground that there was no novelty in the devices they described, and that the production of the improvements whose use they secured called for no exercise of the inventive faculty.
