Gerald Lee Duval, Jr., along with his two adult children — Jeremy Duval and Ashley Duval — grew marijuana on Gerald’s farm in southeast Michigan. As a “patient” under Michigan’s Medical Marihuana Act (MMMA), Gerald was permitted to grow a maximum of 12 marijuana plants for personal use. His children, however, were registered as both “patients” and “caregivers” under the MMMA, which allowed them to grow up to 72 marijuana plants apiece.
