KELLY, Associate Judge:

Appellant Branch seeks reversal of his conviction of second-degree burglary on the ground that a sixteen-month delay between arrest and trial violated his constitutional right to a speedy trial. We conclude that this claim of error has merit, and we reverse.

Appellant and one Samuel Bynum were arrested on a warrant on August 2, 1974, and were indicted for second-degree burglary and grand larceny on December 20. 1 Thereafter, a series of continuances and status hearings delayed the scheduled trial until April 16, 1975. 2 On that day the government announced it was…
