That this case involves a freehold, within the meaning of the statute fixing and limiting the jurisdiction of the Appellate-Courts, can not admit of serious question. The primary object of the suit was the recovery of a freehold. The original bill was filed by the complainant to obtain her dower in six lots of land in the city of Chicago of which her husband died seized, and dower, being an estate for the life of the tenant,, is a freehold estate. 1 Washb. on Real Prop.
