We are concerned here with whether the defendants’ State and Federal constitutional rights were *643violated by a warrantless search of a motor vehicle. Each is charged with the unlawful possession of one or more firearms that were found when two Boston policemen, operating a marked cruiser, stopped them on Washington Street in Boston about 4:10 a.m. on a Saturday morning in March, 1977.
