The district attorney is charged with the ■ duty of prosecuting all persons committing - crimes within the jurisdiction of the court . *567of which he is an officer, and also with the duty of protecting the lives, property reputation, and character of all lawabiding citizens. In discharge of his duty he seeks to invoke the provisions of Articles 17.1 and 1S6 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, LSA-R.S.
