Richard Greer, referred to herein as the defendant, was convicted in the criminal court of Cook County of the crime of dispensing narcotic drugs and has sued out a writ of error to review the judgment of conviction.

Two errors are assigned, the first being that the indictment was insufficient to charge an offense under the statute. The statute provides as follows: “It is unlawful for any person to manufacture, possess, have under his control, sell, prescribe, administer, dispense, or compound any narcotic drug except as authorized in this Act.
