OPINION

ROBINSON, Justice.

The defendant, Antonio Gomes, was indicted for the murder of Mary Brown, and he was subsequently convicted by a jury of second-degree murder. He has appealed to this Court, contending that reversal of his conviction is required in light of this Court’s decisions in State v. Dearmas, 841 A.2d 659 (R.I.2004), and State v. DiStefano, 764 A.2d 1156 (R.I.2000). He further contends that the trial justice committed reversible error when he declined to admit into evidence certain hearsay statements that he maintains were critical to his defense.
