We once again have before us Stanley Walker’s claim for compensation, pursuant to G. L. c. 152, § 36, for specific injuries he suffered in 1995. See Walker’s Case, 443 Mass. 157 (2004) (Walker I). At issue now is the application of G. L. c. 152, § 51 A,1 in the unusual circumstances of this case, in which Walker’s entitlement to compensation for his injuries was established by a reviewing board decision that was subsequently amended by the board itself and then reversed by *359this court in one respect.
