The question in the case is, whether the answer formed a valid defence to a sufficient cause of action set forth in the complaint.

The leading idea of the pleader in drawing the first answer appears to have been, that the order drawn by L. A. Grulick was countermanded by her before the note matured. Of course, that would be no valid defence to an action upon the instrument were it a bill of exchange and in the hands of a holder for value.
