Joseph Nell was arrested on April 5, 1974 and charged with carrying a dangerous weapon1 and with violating both local and federal narcotics statutes.2 On April 10 he was released into the custody of Leonard Weinstein, a professional bondsman, after Weinstein posted a $10,-000 surety bond.
