The defendants in each of these cases are an express company, engaged in the business of- carrying for hire money, goods, and parcels, from one locality to another. In the transaction of their business they employ the railroads, steamboats, and other public conveyances' of the country. These conveyances are not owned by them,' nor are they subject to their control, any more than they are to the control of other transporters or passengers.
