On May 26, 1905, Charlotte E. Bleakley filed a petition in the Circuit Court of Bock Island county, stating that she is a citizen of Lawrence, Kansas; that Edith Bleakley, her daughter, aged fifteen months, is restrained of her liberty by James Gr. Barclay and Stella Barclay, of Moline, in Bock Island county, by virtue of so-called adoption papers which are illegal and void for lack of compliance with the law concerning the adoption of minor children; that said adoption papers were obtained by fraud and misrepresentation; and that…
