The defendant was charged with tire murder (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1969, ch. 38, par. 9 — 1(a)(1)) of his wife, Louella Sivels; with the attempted murder (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1969, ch. 38, par. 8 — 4) of Raymond Stewart; with, aggravated battery (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1969, ch. 38, par. 12 — 4) against the person of Raymond Stewart, and with a battery (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1969, ch. 38, par. 12 — 3) against the person of Raymond Stewart.
