The appellant, John A. Burnett, was convicted of first degree murder in the death of his wife and sentenced to life imprisonment. We affirmed. Burnett v. State, 299 Ark. 553, 776 S.W.2d 327 (1989). The appellant subsequently filed in this court a petition for post-conviction relief pursuant to Criminal Procedure Rule 37. We granted the petition in part to permit appellant to apply for an evidentiary hearing in the trial court on the question of whether appellant’s trial attorney rendered effective assistance of counsel.
